Mama Likes: Swanson Vineyards.

It doesn't get much better than spending Mother's Day in Napa Valley with my two favorite dudes. Especially when our visit to wine country is punctuated by a short stop at Swanson Vineyards. So what if this winery is owned by the same family that became famous for introducing us to frozen dinners in the 1950s? They sure know how to make a late afternoon wine tasting extra special.

With a small tasting room adorned with red & white stripes from floor to ceiling, charming picnic table seating inside and out, citrus trees, bird baths and Michel, a dapper French man, who serenades guests by playing his barrel organ, the atmosphere is downright parfait. Children are made to feel welcome, there are always special treats and if you're the designated driver, their New Orleans iced coffee is pretty incredible. On Mother's Day we were served delicious tea sandwiches (with the crusts cut off, how sweet) and a divine little bonbon dusted with curry (so good, trust me).

Beyond the A+ decor, the folks at Swanson also get a few extra credit points for the design of their wine bottles. You know I'm a sucker for good design, and these fun messages caught my eye right away. Naturally, I gathered a bunch of them off the shelf to add to my wine rack at home. Won't they make the most perfect hostess gifts?

Frozen dinners were far from my mind as I sat at the sweet yellow picnic table with my tea sandwiches and glass of viognier, listening to French ballads and watching my little guy wandering around picking oranges and lemons from the trees. If you have a chance to get to Napa, please put Swanson Vineyards on your list of places to visit. I am sure you'll enjoy it as much as I have.
