<p>Who doesn&#8217;t love a bad pun to welcome a new season? I usually think of Easter as the marker of our transition from winter to spring. Typically, most of the snow would have melted and egg hunts could be held in still barren, but slightly defrosted yards. This year, notsomuch &#8211; the egg hunt will be an indoor event.</p>
<p><span style="font-size: 13px;">Despite that slight alteration in plans, we&#8217;ll still have the usual bunny cake, jelly beans, Peeps and brunch with the whole family. I&#8217;m sure there are a million amazing and creative ideas on </span><a style="font-size: 13px;" href="http://pinterest.com">Pinterest</a><span style="font-size: 13px;"> to make celebrating Easter super-complicated and perfectly styled (or just a complete </span><a style="font-size: 13px;" href="http://www.pinterestfail.com/">homemade disaster</a><span style="font-size: 13px;">), but we are keeping it real and just want to keep the kids entertained. Don&#8217;t get me wrong, I love me some </span><a style="font-size: 13px;" href="http://pinterest.com/kssenn">Pinterest</a><span style="font-size: 13px;">, but sometimes there&#8217;s no need to create anything beyond fun memories.</span></p>

<p>There have been a lot of family posts lately, but I promise to get back to posting about fun creative projects, decorating updates and other art and kid stuff. For now, you&#8217;ll just have to suffer through the cute photos of my kids.</p>

I came across these amazing food art images on <a href="http://www.handmadecharlotte.com/amazing-instagram-breakfast-art-by-idafrosk/">Handmade Charlotte</a> the other day and couldn&#8217;t resist sharing them here.</p>
<p>A woman in Oslo, Norway actually creates a new edible art piece every morning and shares them with the world on <a href="http://instagram.com/idafrosk">Instagram</a>. Can you imagine creating masterpieces like this for your kids every morning? Mom of the Year material, folks, even if you just do it on their birthdays.</p>

<p>I&#8217;m slightly, okay completely, addicted to magazines. I scour the newsstands on the regular for my favorite international design pubs, subscribe to an unknown number and always ALWAYS pick up trashy tabloids before I get on an airplane. In fact, I think I stuck with working in advertising for so long because I loved the unlimited supply of magazines crossing my desk. I was so excited when part of my Valentine&#8217;s Day gift from my husband was an issue of the new-ish <a href="http://thirtytwomag.com/">Thirty Two Magazine</a>, a local (Twin Cities) publication.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-2573" style="font-size: 13px;" alt="thirty two spread 2" src="http://www.sennandsons.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/thirty-two-spread-2.jpg" width="600" height="401" /></p>
<p>Started by a husband and wife team and funded by a <a href="http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thirtytwomagazine/thirty-two-subscription-drive-for-minnesotas-new-m">Kickstarter campaign</a>, Thirty Two is filled with interesting topics, beautiful photography, nice art direction, cool illustrations and graphics, and a really unique (perhaps even a bit critical?) take on Minnesotan culture.</p>
<p>It seems the editors are hell-bent on making the Twin Cities great, encouraging us &#8211; Minnesotans &#8211; to better ourselves and make an impact on our home state. It&#8217;s also sending a big message to others who read it: this place is a helluva lot cooler than you think it is.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-2572" style="font-size: 13px;" alt="thirty two spread 1" src="http://www.sennandsons.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/thirty-two-spread-1.jpg" width="600" height="401" /></p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-2571" style="font-size: 13px;" alt="thirty two milk spread" src="http://www.sennandsons.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/thirty-two-milk-spread.jpg" width="600" height="401" /></p>
<p>You like? <a href="http://www.thirtytwomagazine.bigcartel.com/">Subscribe here</a> or pick up a copy of any of<a href="http://thirtytwomag.com/find-us/"> these Twin Cities shops</a>.</p>

<p>I should probably be sleeping, but I just finished updating the <a href="http://facebook.com/sennandsonssf">Senn &amp; Sons Facebook page</a> over a nice glass of wine and couldn&#8217;t wait to share. After reading <a href="http://blog.imbreannarose.com/for-bloggers-facebook-apps-guide/#comment-5424">this post</a> from the brilliant designer who redesigned my website, I was inspired to make a few tweaks to the page. I have some fun new tabs to browse my shop, my <a href="http://pinterest.com/kssenn">Pinterest pins</a>, <a href="http://twitter.com/kssenn">tweets</a> and even <a href="https://www.facebook.com/sennandsonsSF/app_267091300008193">Instagram photos</a> and a fresh new cover photo for a little change of pace.</p>

<p>While I&#8217;ve been creating a lot of artwork for homes over the past couple of years, I&#8217;ve also been quietly doing a bit of nursery design. I just got some fun pictures of one of my big projects from last summer and couldn&#8217;t wait to share them here.</p>
<p>Last spring, Kyle and Christine, an awesome couple from Ohio, contacted me about helping them design a nursery. At the time, I was just coming out of my first trimester sickness and was thrilled to help them out! Since they&#8217;re in Ohio and I was in California, I couldn&#8217;t be on the ground helping them paint the room, search for the perfect chandelier or test out gliders, so everything had to be either easy to access online, at a national retailer or simply ideas they could put their own spin on.</p>
<p>After presenting three potential directions for the room, we decided on this design board for their daughter&#8217;s room:</p>
<p><a href="http://www.sennandsons.com/a-soft-sweet-nursery/hygge-west-nursery-design/" rel="attachment wp-att-2546"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-2546" alt="Hygge &amp; West Nursery Design" src="http://www.sennandsons.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Hygge-West-Nursery-Design.jpg" width="600" height="836" /></a></p>
<p><a style="font-size: 13px;" href="http://www.sennandsons.com/a-soft-sweet-nursery/chandelier/" rel="attachment wp-att-2524"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-2524" alt="chandelier" src="http://www.sennandsons.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/chandelier.jpg" width="600" height="399" /></a></p>
<p>One of my favorite elements in the room is this awesome yellow chandelier. Can you believe they found this beauty at a thrift shop and spray painted it that sunny shade? So cool.</p>
<p><a style="font-size: 13px;" href="http://www.sennandsons.com/a-soft-sweet-nursery/mobile/" rel="attachment wp-att-2526"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-2526" alt="mobile" src="http://www.sennandsons.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/mobile.jpg" width="600" height="902" /></a></p>
<p>Their custom mobile by Etsy artist <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/aprilderek">Amanda Zemon</a> is so seriously awesome I think I might have to get one for Freddie&#8217;s new room in Minnesota. Amanda did such an amazing job creating this beauty just by taking inspiration from the design board. I especially love the little hearts on the birds, which subtly echo the heart on the adorable <a href="http://www.childreninspiredesign.com/content/ohio">Ohio print</a> hanging in the room.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-2525" style="font-size: 13px;" alt="crib details" src="http://www.sennandsons.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/crib-details.jpg" width="600" height="399" /></p>
<p>The real show-stopper, though, is the gorgeous wallpaper from Minneapolis-based <a href="http://www.hyggeandwest.com/">Hygge &amp; West</a>. It&#8217;s so fresh and whimsical and is truly the inspiration for the whole room. (Hygge &amp; West blogged about the room <a href="http://www.picnicsunderthemoon.com/2013/01/sunshine-nursery.html">here</a>.)</p>
<p>And because I love clever things, I just have to share this. The room doesn&#8217;t have a closet, so Kyle and Christine needed to get a bit creative with how to store sweet Quinn&#8217;s clothes. Using the built-in cabinets, they created an open wardrobe and added additional storage by adding bins to the shelves.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-2523" style="font-size: 13px;" alt="built-in closet" src="http://www.sennandsons.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/built-in-closet.jpg" width="600" height="399" /></p>
<p>And the best part of all? Sweet Quinn! Isn&#8217;t she just adorable?</p>
<p><a href="http://www.sennandsons.com/a-soft-sweet-nursery/quinn/" rel="attachment wp-att-2529"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-2529" alt="quinn" src="http://www.sennandsons.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/quinn.jpg" width="600" height="500" /></a></p>
<p>I haven&#8217;t really written much about my decorating services on this blog since I can&#8217;t take on many projects through the year &#8211; I focus mainly on paintings and prints &#8211; but after this awesome process and outcome, I might have to change that! If you want to know more about my process, just drop me a note through the <a href="http://www.sennandsons.com/contact/">Contact</a> page.</p>
