WELCOME TO THE Senn & Sons studio

Art that inspires connection, joy, and creativity in the everyday.

I’m Kim Senn, a multi-disciplinary artist and surface pattern designer, and Senn & Sons is my design studio and creative workshop. In this space, I bring ideas to life in many forms, including prints and patterns with hand-drawn lines and vibrant color palettes for products across a range of categories, as well as a biweekly dispatch from a life lived creatively called Unusually.

I believe your everyday life should be filled with the people, activities, and objects that delight, and that good design can make routine moments feel special. I write and make art with the hope of spreading joy and inspiring creativity and curiosity.

Cheerful prints and patterns that create an unreasonable amount of joy.

With a versatile style that translates beautifully across products and categories from stationery and textiles to gift and home décor, Senn & Sons creates bold, hand-drawn prints and patterns that bring joy, warmth, and personality to everyday products.

Here’s a rotating selection of recent work, including pieces developed for Blue Sky at Target, Shutterfly, and the studio's own collections.

I’m Kim Senn, an artist, designer, and writer.

I'm a Midwestner with a nomadic heart, born and raised in Wisconsin (in the 1900s, as the kids say), and now living in Minnesota, where lakes and hotdish are abundant. Between my early years and today, I spent my 20s and early 30s living in New York, London, and San Francisco, working at award-winning creative agencies on ad campaigns for brands like Ray-Ban, Nvidia, Virgin Mobile, and Disney. Eventually, I left that world behind to found Senn & Sons and pursue my personal creative practice while raising our kids (the sons in Senn & Sons).

Always up for an adventure, in 2025, our family packed up and moved to Bordeaux, France, for half the year. Our “semester abroad” inspired me to start writing again – a return to my journalism degree – and I turned my notes-to-self and travel journal into essays that I publish on Substack.

Today, I continue to share personal stories on Substack and create hand-drawn prints and surface patterns. My work in partnership with Blue Sky, Shutterfly, and others has produced best-selling products on shelves at Target, Walmart, and beyond.

I believe your everyday life should be filled with the people, activities, and things that bring you joy, and that living curiously and creatively can make it even more enjoyable.

The Difference Is in the Details

Here's what makes working together so easy.

A woman with curly hair wearing a tan coat, white shirt, and light-colored pants standing with her arms crossed against a plain white wall.

Professional Collaboration. I spent a decade managing multi-million dollar global campaigns, so I know my way around a deadline. Mix that with clear communication, on-time deliverables, and responsiveness, and working together is absolutely seamless.

Personal Taste. I keep up with trends without being caught up in them. My work is driven by a genuine love of style, pattern, and things I'd actually want to bring into my own home and use myself. Every design is considered, intentional, and made to a high standard I hold myself to personally.

Made by Hand, Always. Every piece starts with a pencil or pen and a moment of inspiration. The organic lines and imperfections that come from working from sketches are prominent in my work, intentionally. You'll never get something that looks like it was generated by an algorithm, because it wasn't.

Art for the Real World. I always create with end use in mind. Whether it's fabric, wallpaper, stationery, or home goods, I think about how a pattern actually lives on an object – the scale, the colors, the energy it creates when someone brings it into their home. The result is work that's equal parts beautiful and functional.

Unusually: Personal dispatches and unusually good detours.

Unusually is a biweekly dispatch from a life lived creatively. I share thoughts from my travels, creative work and projects, and other essays that don't neatly fit into a box, but offer my perspective on what it means to embrace a creative life. Lately: a family road trip through the Pays Basque, living abroad with teens, the deliberate choices of a creative life, and being in the right place at the right time. New essays land (about) every other week.
